Elementary and middle school students throughout New Jersey will head to virtual court in May, but not because they did anything wrong.
They are the winners of the New Jersey State Bar Foundation’s Law Fair (grades 3 – 6) and Law Adventure (grades 7 & 8) Competitions. In these competitions, students and their teachers write original mock trial cases based upon rules provided by the State Bar Foundation. Winners will present their mock trials before judges and attorneys and juries of their peers via Zoom.
Law Fair winning cases deal with fossils stolen from a museum; a lost cat; theft of a German Shepherd; a runaway ostrich; refusal to wear a mask; a car crash; allowing a child into an R-rated movie theater; and a porch pirate.
Law Adventure students were asked to prepare cases on the following two themes: First Amendment Rights or Public Health Law and Privacy Concerns.
