New Jersey State Bar Foundation Salutes the Memory of Justice Marie L. Garibaldi

A Message from Steven M. Richman, Esq., President

On behalf of the New Jersey Bar Foundation, we mourn the passing of Marie L. Garibaldi, a trailblazer and iconic figure in the history of New Jersey law and a good friend to both the Foundation and the New Jersey State Bar Association. Her bountiful legal legacy includes becoming not only the first woman president of the Association but notably the first woman Associate Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. She was passionate about the work of the Bar Foundation and was a consistently strong supporter of our mission to educate the public about the law. To that end, she was the impetus behind the creation of the Foundation's award-winning Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition. Throughout her decades of service to the bar and the bench, she earned our admiration and respect, culminating in the Foundation's awarding her the Medal of Honor. We will miss her energy and dedication to the law and extend our sincere sympathy to her family, friends and colleagues.
